GE Assessment Committee/Council
The General Education Assessment Committee was formed in May 2007, immediately before the implementation of new General Education Program in Fall 2007. Working with the Office of Programs and Academic Assessment (OPAA), the committee was instrumental in the design and implementation of General Education assessment at UIC. The committee was comprised of faculty and staff who have knowledge of or interest in the General Education Program at UIC. During the period of May 2007 and June 2015, 34 individuals served on the committee at different times.
In Fall 2015, the General Education Council – a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Educational Policy (SCEP) – was formed. In addition to assuming responsibility for the first stage of approving general education courses, the council will also advise OPAA on the design and implementation of General Education assessment and develop General Education policy. The council consists of one representative from each of UIC’s colleges that offer undergraduate courses, except for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that has two representatives. The Director of Academic Program Development and Director of Academic Assessment in OPAA serve as ex officio members. Here is a list of council members and staff.
